Sean Connery: The First impression!
![]() |
Born in Edinburgh, the son of a truck driver, Sean Connery went on to become one of the most respected movie stars of England.
Still considered by many to be the best 007 to date.
Before donning the garb of the most-loved spy on earth, Connery had a three-year stint in the British Navy. After leaving the navy, he had to toil as a milkman, bricklayer and lifeguard before he represented Scotland at the 1950 Mr. Universe contest.
Before getting cast as James Bond, Connery was a little-known actor. Connery epitomised the early Bond with his winning smile, deadpan wit and impassive manner. He left the Bond series in 1971.
Sean Connery appeared seven times on screen, as James Bond: ‘Dr.No’ (1962), ‘From Russia With Love’ (1963), ‘Goldfinger’ (1964), ‘Thunderball’ (1965), ‘You Only Live Twice’ (1967), ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ (1971) and ‘Never Say Never Again’ (1983).
Bond one-liners from Connery
You Only Live Twice: "Oh the things I do for England!!" (007 is about to make love to the evil Helga Brandt in 'You Only Live Twice')
Diamonds Are For Ever: "That's a nice little nothing you're almost wearing." ('Diamonds Are Forever')
You Only Live Twice: [James is being bathed by Tanaka's women.]
Tiger Tanaka: You know what it is about you that fascinates them, don't you? It's the hair on your chest. All Japanese men have beautiful bare skin.
James Bond: Ancient Japanese proverb, "Bird never build nest in bare tree."

George Lazenby: Forgotten Agent!
![]() |
| After Sean Connery's resignation from the 007 franchise, George Lazenby was called in to do the role of Bond in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. Lazenby did not have any prior acting experience except for a TV commercial for Big Fry Chocolates. Lazenby, it was reported, had showdowns with both director Peter Hunt and Bond Girl Diana Rigg on the sets. He also waged war with the producers. Immediately after the movie, Lazenby announced that he would not be doing any more Bond films. "I took bad advice," he later said. Connery was called back for ‘Diamonds Are Forever'. Ironically, 'On His Majesty's Secret Service' is considered by many Bond fans as one of the best 007 movies ever. 007 One-liners from Lazenby "Same old Monneypenny, Britain's first line of defense" - Bond to Moneypenny. |
Roger Moore: Boyish Bond!
![]() |
| The ‘longest serving Bond’ to date, Moore took over from Sean Connery in 1973. Moore was older than Connery but he brought a youthful vigor to the character. Before getting into the 07 franchise, Moore had done popular tele-takes such as ‘Maverick’, ‘Ivanhoe’, ‘The Saint’, and ‘The Persuaders’ and had been popular for his unique brand of action and light comedy. Moore’s famous movies outside the franchise include ‘The Wild Geese’, ‘The Sea Wolves’ and ‘North Sea Hijack’. He now travels worldwide as an ambassador for UNICEF and received a CBE (Commander of The Most Excellent Order of The British Empire) for his services to charity in March 1999. Major films from Moore’s 007 folder: ‘Live And Let Die’ (1973), ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’ (1974), ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ (1977), ‘Moonraker’ (1979), ‘For Your Eyes Only’ (1981), ‘Octopussy’ (1983), ‘A View To A Kill’ (1985). Roger Moore’s 007 one-liners The Man With the Golden Gun: Dancer:"Ah!, I've lost my charm" Bond: "Not from where I'm standing" Moonraker: (As one of his victims land on a piano…) "Play it again, Sam." (A take on the famous Humphrey Bogart line in ‘Casablanca) |
Timothy Dalton: Stopgap 007!

| One of the instructions that Timothy Dalton was given on the sets of ‘The Living Daylights’ was to look humorless and to cut off boyishness (a Moore trait). Dalton’s Bond looked morose, and the franchise’s popularity took a dip. After two 007 editions, Dalton quit the franchise and was replaced by Pierce Brosnan. Dalton played Bond in: ‘The Living Daylights’ (1987) and ‘License to Kill’ (1989). |
Pierce Brosnan: Lady Killer!
![]() | ||||
| Born in Navan, County Meath, Ireland, Pierce Brosnan captured the small screen with a brilliant show as the charming detective in ‘Remington Steele’ (the role had cost Brosnan the 007 role in 1986). After lying low for six years, James Bond shot back to the big screen with ‘Golden Eye’ (1995). And Brosnan was hailed, by some, as the best bond ever!! In addition to the Bond movies, Brosnan answered the “actor’s call” with ‘The Mirror Has Two Faces’, ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’, ‘The Match’, ‘Grey Owl’ and ‘The Nephew’. Pierce Brosnan played Bond in ‘Golden Eye’ (1995), ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ (1997), ‘The World Is Not Enough’ (1999) and ‘Die Another Day’ (2002). Brosnan’s 007 one-liners Golden Eye: "Governments change, the lies stay the same" Tomorrow Never Dies: "They'll print anything these days!" - Bond, after dropping a guy into the newspaper printer. Daniel Craig: Hunk 007!
