Mormon vs. Rasta

This is the Mormons' big chance! They want to make their mark on society and prove they belong. They've gone out into America to work against Gay Rights, and this new fight makes them relevant.

To me, it proves just the opposite. To me they look backwards and out of touch, following the mindset of a bygone age, when discrimination was preferred and inferiority seemed part of the natural order, an age, just coming to a close, when equal rights was an idea that was scoffed at.

Okay, I am trying to understand this still, but this is what I understand so far...

The Mormons teach that white people are the sons of God, but dark people are the Sons of Ham. They teach that there is a reason dark peoples are dark. It's because they are descendant of the man who turned his back on God and left the family or something. All Ham's descendants carry the Ham curse. That's what they teach. But they aren't the only religion that teaches the Ham thing.
Rastafarianism teaches that, too! But with a twist: they teach King Selassie was the Second Coming because God wanted to redeem the Lost, the Sons of Ham, rescuing them from a curse that was passed down by heritage, by heredity.
So, to recap, Ham left God and went on to propagate and now his children are all over the world living profoundly oppressed lives. Then God sent a son, this time in the form of King Selassie of Ethiopia, to announce the news of God's redemption of the Black Man. It's God's Emancipation Proclamation. The Sons of Ham are to be repatriated at once.

That's what Bob Marley's song, "Black Man Redemption" refers to.
Meanwhile, the Mormons believe they themselves are still the Very, Very Good People, descendants of Abraham, I think, who have proof of Jesus in America. They have it in with God, so they carry on God's moral work here on earth. Anyone on the outs, like Blacks and Gays, cannot be considered equal. "It is written."

It is true they do adopt dark children, but one slip and they are un-adopted. I question Mormon adoptions because of this.

If you are gay, you are excommunicated, and you now carry a curse similar to Ham. In fact, you are now offically "lost", as lost as any lost son of Ham in Africa.

Rastafarians believe King Selassie of Ethiopia spoke the word of God to the Lost Tribes, thusly commanding the Black Man to lift himself up, sing thanks and praises, do God's work by bettering himself and his Brethren, and prepare for entry into Heaven. In Reggae songs, the call to "Repatriate" is a constant theme. The black man are now chosen. They've been called by God. Racism and "downpression" become mortal sins at this point, for the oppressor is oppressing God's Chosen People. Complete turnaround! Now it is the racist who is not only wicked, but arrogant. They go to church but worship a false religion.

The Mormons go on waiting for The Christ to return. They haven't seen hide or hair yet. Which is fine, faith and waiting better the soul.

Rastafarians teach that the white race missed the whole thing. Selassie spoke the new truth in the 1930s. They teach that because it happened in Africa and, because of White people's wickedness and arrogance and their following a false prophets, they will wind up meeting a very different fate than the one they expected on Judgment Day.

The Mormons, for now, find their Sons of Ham message a bit unpopular nowadays but think they may have a winner in fighting Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transgenders.
