18,000 Gay Marriages in California Upheld -- Any More Will Be Banned -- Welcome To the 18,000 Club

But Proposition 8's upholding is troublesome. It means by a majority vote, the rights of a minority can be taken away. It is the danger inherent when no check and balance on the power of the majority exists. Democratic, majority-ruled government can be used as a hammer, an oppressive agent. John Stuart Mill, way back in 1859, called it "tyranny of the majority."

Tyranny of the majority.
John Stuart Mill's On Liberty was the best thing I ever had to read in college. The test on this particular book was one I aced in an otherwise less-than-average academic performance in higher ed.

We always knew these were the rules: we would have to get permission to have our rights from the straight majority. So we are coming out now to ask for YOUR approval. You have the RIGHT to say NO. But we think we can convince you of our worthiness. After all, we think we are worthy. We ourselves were just as difficult to convince as anyone, believe it or not. We will start here in Fresno, California.

FRESNO, California voted 84% for Proposition 8, the Same Sex Marriage Ban. It is in the middle of the State of California, in the heart California's Bible Belt. Therefore, hearts and minds will have to change here in Fresno before the State of California as a whole can move forward. Fresno is too big and California cannot outvote it.

Therefore, we must MEET IN THE MIDDLE. Join us here in FRESNO at City Hall, which is the huge futuristic building on the south of Fresno Street by the Santa Fe Railroad Track, at 1pm, on Saturday, May 30. Please come out and support us.

AND, we will see you Saturday, June 6 for Fresno's LGBT Pride Parade and Festival, on Olive Avenue from Palm to Wishon.
