Letter To The Editor. Topic: more right wing Anti-environment "water rallies"
I am appalled by all these so-called "water rallies" by forces seeking to destroy our valley's precious Delta and river system.
Another disappointing mayor, Ashley Sweringen, fresh from representing the City of Fresno at an anti-gay hate rally sponsored by the most intolerant churches in this city of intolerance, is calling for ignorant Fresnans to make a show in numbers at City Hall for ending the restoration of the San Joaquin River Delta, returning all water needed to help save the environment to massive farming operations on the west side of the valley, as well as to developers - developments need a water supply.
A big crowd, like the one at the anti-Obama "tea party" held earlier this year, will serve to create the illusion of massive support.
If they win, they will destroy once and for all the fragile delta that cleans the air and water and spawns fish, delicious wild fish we can all enjoy again of the Delta is saved.
These clever people are even using as their poster children migrant farm workers who are out of work due to a low water year.
Not every year has the same amount of rain. When the rains return, so will the farming operations of the west side, except in the cases where unproductive acres of farmland have been created by salt buildup due to over-irrigation. That land is destroyed forever, the big farm company that destroyed it acquiring new pristine acreage to which to do the same.
These are the kind of people who at these water rallies. This is not a fight for water -- it's a fight against the environment. It's a relic of the Reagan era. These people need to be put out to pasture.
