UPDATE 090729: Oh, come on. That was no robbed home run. Just saw the video.

He may remind us of Pedro "Pete" Guerrero, but only because he's Dominican and big. Unlike Pete, he's just too big-time for a Dodger uniform. Wish the Yankees had him. Sure, he hits 'em out of park, but he did it with steroids, which is kind of gross. Steroids overdevelop a body and leave it all used up when they wear off. What if he starts to suck? He could bring the whole team down because he's too big-time and expensive not to play. He's your key to victory as well as defeat.
It was fun to watch the team blossom into a game winning team without him while he was on his 50 game suspension for doping. Sure, the team wasn't as good as it was before, but it was more like real Dodger team. They won with defense, taking advantage of mistakes, and even by knocking the ball out of the park themselves.
With Manny gone, we got to know Orlando Hudson, Casey Blake, Rafael Furcal, James Loney, Andre Ethier, Juan Pierre and my favorite, Matt Kemp. Just those guys and that underestimated pitching staff was the kind of team that could battle to a pennant and success in the post-season.
But right now, since Manny's return to the roster, I'm a little worried by what seems to be a rough patch. They are having trouble moving runners home on offense and stopping the opposition from having big innings on defense. They are dropping series to visiting teams, taking 1 of 3 from the Marlins, merely splitting the series with the 'Stros, and now getting clocked by the Cardinals. Manny had a legendary pinch hit on his day "off" the other night, a grand slam.
But on the field, Manny had throwing error vs. the Marlins, losing the game.
Is the team too tired and too injured to go the whole way?
Meanwhile, other teams are heating up, or just waking up. The Yankees, The Red Sox, The Angels, The Cardinals, The Cubbies and the San Francisco Giants...
LINSECUMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!! On lunch break (I work swing) I heard Linsecum just barely hang on to his spot on the mound -- 2 unearned runs scored and he was one more hit away from being pulled -- at a 99 pitch count. But he gets out of the jam. I had to go back in. When I heard the news after work I couldn't believe it. Complete game, amazing performance. I'm jealous. I'm an oldskool Dodger fan. I like great pitching. And outfielders who can throw the ball, MANNY.
