1. if I recall ObjectDock (paid) has a special icon that shows tray icons included
2. Blackbox. BB4Win.org has a lot of info. If you're looking to be rid of the taskbar, why not just get rid of explorer as the shell?
3. In XP I used a modified Litestep theme that just loaded the tray, but on vista EmergeDesktop has better compatibility with the new notification icons.
