Fantasy Basketball Player Ranks: Top Four Tiers - Updated
Yeah so one good piece of advice to you is - don't play with your models and data on New Years Eve after several stiff drinks! I basically blew up all the information I had been saving and when I ran the spreadsheet it spit back some pretty bad stuff. I posted it last night but I've taken that down. I re-built the Tiers spreadsheet and expanded it out to five tiers. In looking this over I am sure it's got everyone covered and makes MUCH more sense lol. Anyway, let me know what you think. I left the player's score next to them so you can get a feel for how my spreadsheet liked a certain player or not. You'll also notice by score and Tier whether I like a player or not. I think you'll all really like this list, take a look:

great list thief. i saw redd ranked so low. do the rankings change midway through the season?
10 team h2h
PENDIN ON THE SAUCE THIEF, YOU THINK I Make this trade?
my josh smith and conly
for
kevin love and tyreke
i feel like i could use the bounds, plus tyreke is a plus over conley. what you think?
team:
chris paul, devin harris. calderon, conley
jason richardson, oj mayo
rudy gay josh smith rashard lewis
brook lopez andrea barnagni joakim noah luis scola
sauce:
threes .91
points 15.67
bounds 5.97
dimes 3.62
steals 1.09
blocks .82
Mamba, not quite a steal, but a close call. Decent trade I'd say.
JB, much like the sauce formula, the Tiers are heavily influenced by current year stats, but alos include prior years, years played, and injuries. you need better backup guards for that team, somethin cheap like conley or fisher...
whats up with dampier he is a tier five but his score should have him in tier 4
dampier,erick 4.525079
u think i pull the trigger? i gain ALOT of points and ALOT of threes but i lose a lil dimes and obv blocks. gain alot of free throw % to. yay or nay?
AC, contract year, that's his only motivation. I don't see this keeping up.
Mamba, I'd say nay, try to get a little more
Hi thief, just wondering, Aaron Brooks is nowhere to be found and he is playing better than most tier 4 and 5 over there, is he a miss sight or why didn't he cut it?
how about i send my josh smith j rich and calderon
for
mo williams joe johnson and horford
team:
chris paul, devin harris. calderon, conley
jason richardson, oj mayo
rudy gay josh smith rashard lewis
brook lopez andrea barnagni joakim noah luis scola
sauce:
threes .91
points 15.67
bounds 5.97
dimes 3.62
steals 1.09
blocks .8
ismael, my research has brooks ranked 133 overall. That's beyond the 5 tiers.
wut ya thinkk thief?
What a game by Nate Robinson right now... Do you think he'll make a tier or is he still iffy in D'Antoni's doghouse?
mamba, still not gettin there. I mean they are both 'equal at best' offers, I can't condone one of those.
DW, Nate could be a great player, but never in NY
should i drop conley for nate?? i could use scoring
Hi, THief. If I offer LBJ and Corey Maggette for Dwyane Wade and David Lee, would that be a steal? Or it's too risky, considering Dwyane Wade is having so many injury troubles. Thank you.
mamba, i dont see nate doing this very oft, but im not that high on conley either
tao, NO NO NO NO NO DEALING LBJ!!
hey thief
i was offered kidd and murphy for garnett and westbrook...
i need assists and 3s...
thievin??
or is murphys injury too risky?
This is my first year of playing Fantasy Basketball and made three very stupid trade already. Now my team is a little **** up and dying for trades that would make my team better.
I am in a 10 player league and my players (now) are:
LBJ
D Williams
Devin Harris
Al Harrington
Andrea Bargnani
Vince Carter
Courtney Lee
CDR
Trevor Ariza
Corey Maggette
Roy Hibbert
Stephen Curry
Chris Duhon
hey thief, what if you make a blog post that talks about how to handle a starter that has a 2 or 1 game week?
Thief, I need some help man. I was going to try hook up that Carmelo/Scola offer for Dirk, but decided I'd try for Lebron because the owner is looking for FGM, Oreb, Reb so I thought he might buy it. Anyway, he's counter offered and wants D West/Carmelo for Lebron. I'd like to get a better deal out of this, my team is big on the percentages and i love West's FT%, he's also coming around with his Pts/Reb like the old D West.
What should I do? Go for Dirk instead?
Here's my team and sauce:
Chris Paul
Jason Terry
Carmelo Anthony
Amare Stoudemire
Nene
Russell Westbrook
David West
Jeff Green
Luis Scola
Raymond Felton
Ty Thomas
SS: 16.7 5.9 3.6 1.2 .46 .59 .62 1.6 4.4
Other team:
Mo Williams
Manu
Kidd
Lebron
Hedo
Duncan
Perkins
Gordon
Josh Howard
Thad young
Yi Jianlin
SS: 15.8 5.6 3.7 .96 .45 1.2 .75 1.2 4.4
Sorry for the long post, just need your advice. I was looking to improve 3s/Blks, keeping up high %s and not losing rebs.
loho, INK IT
Tao, run your sauce numbers and lets see where you stand
Dave, Melo and West for LBJ is a friggin steal. INK IT!!
JB, how do you mean? If he has one game, then you put in some bench guys?
sup thief!!
i tried to ink that 2-1 deal of FRYE/DURANT for CP3...
he wanted a PG in return so felt i had to bank that move and accept that deal as he wasnt gonna move, did i still do good getting that tier1? ? DURANT is on fire at the moment too!! :-/
PLUS who should i pick up on the wire!?
JAMEER/DURANT - CP3 [dropping ronnie brewer]
on the wire: BIEDRINS/BARBOSA/TYRUS
------------
current team & currently 7th in a 10 H2H league... sauce #s not accounted for tyreke evans, anthony randolph, o.j. mayo, allen iverson. let me know what you think...

yeah, then after talking about those players with one game week, you can go deeper on how to improve your bench and how to make a trade with your strong starter with a weaker one and a worthy bench player, got it? (^^)
Thief, this is my secret sauce number
PTS 16.10630392 REB 5.083293507 AST 4.097917484 STL 1.154268836 TO 0.454002008 3PT 1.012279568 BLK 0.495646493
I am seeking trade to further lower my BLK and increase my REB.
Is it ok to pursue a strategy giving up some categories?
thanks thief
it ended up that i had to throw in morrow...
im probably gonna pick up peja on waivers
i feel that i got a steal!
Hey it's bandoogie again. I know you said give up B. Davis for Garnett, but in light of your new tier post, I was wondering if I could possibly get Gerald Wallace for B. Davis, should I pursue that first?
hey thief, happy new year I hope your well.
what do you think of this 2-1 trade that I have pending, my stephen curry + carl landry for luol deng?
also, I'm trying to sell zach randolph like a used car salesman, aiming at tim duncan. i also considered lee and lopez but when I saw this tier list i thought otherwise. plus, yi and cdr are arriving so I think he'll get less production. lee i tried before but I'ma see if I can land duncan first.
jb, i hear you, you'd like a post on h2h strategies. sounds good
badoooogie, YUP! As an aside, my buy low calculator shows KG as the top target....
jawn, love it, grab barbosa,
tao, go after Okafor, he's pretty cheap right now.
I forgot to add that this deal (BD for Wallace) would give me 1 tier one player, 2 tier two players, and then 5 tier 3 players, 2 tier 4 players, 1 tier 5 player and 2 unranked(A. Randolph and A.I.) with the difference being a 2nd tier 2(Wallace) instead of a 6th tier 3(Garnett).
THIEF!!!
Any thoughts on the Arenas situation, I'm not sure if I should hold tight or start trying to deal him.
Thank you Thief! I'll try. Who do you think I should offer?
I just made a trade. Troy Murphy and Louis Williams for Brendan Haywood and Charlie villanueva. I lose threes, but my team has 30 through 5 days so I'm set with that anyways. I'm looking to drop charlie because he is god awful right now and definetly not worth having in a ten team league. I need blocks and some points. I'm also going for Some threes so that I can lock that up every week. Also, I need a SF. I have 5 pf/c at the moment with 11 ppl per team. I'm trying to get 3 of each position to ensure full lineup. My free agent choices are Yi Jianlian( he's really hot buy only a PF. Should I blowoff my rule and keep the hot guy?) courtney lee, Shane battier, salmons, Matt barnes, and Jared Dudley. Who would you choose if you had one spot to fill? Battier is the best blocker out of them all. He is pure 3 and blk. Would posting my whole team help a bit in the decision?
hey thief, so far, who do you think is greater, iverson or lou williams? thanks!!
btw thief, in our league, only 5 of the 20 teams had done a move. do you think the remaining 15 teams do not check their teams?
You know, I did notice that your calculator shows KG as the top target. When I plug him in instead of GWall, the numbers are better, but it looks like it's only a .4 difference in assists(KG is hovering around 2.5 & GWall is hovering around 2.1). For the approx. 5 extra boards, I will get from GWall, I'm willing to take that hit in assists.
Akur, I like where yo heads at.
Phil, don't panic, I'll scour my sources for some info.
Tao, offer cdr an al harrington in a 2-2 for okafor. Also I'd like to see u starting VC over Devin Harris.
Chatta, no need, grab battier. He's unimpressively awesome. Once u have him you'll know what I mean.
Jb, read my old post on how to spot a manager that trades.
Bando, not just all that, but KG would cost a LOT less in a trade.
okay, i got it. i'll wait for your next post fella! PEACE!!!
hey bro, salmons is a buy low, right? i LOVE it!!! who do you think in my roster should i offer for him?

THANKS!
Thief, statistically speaking, is it bad to have 2 or more players from the same team bad or is it neglible. The myth going around is that it is bad, I'm thinking it might not make any difference. In my case I have 2 from CHI, 2 from DEN and 2 from CHA.
@Ismael, it depends on how they play on the court. for example, you have iverson and lou williams, out of 5 games, they will just do both great 50% of the time which is bad. we want to have a player that is consistent. but players like channing frye and amare do great 90% to 100% of the time because amare loves the inside while frye loves the outside. that is it. i hope i helped you. PEACE!!
I still cant get to the calc
@Ismael, going along with what the other guy said. As long as the two players don't conflict with one another, like position wise, it should be fine. I have the same situation and it's worked for me. I have Deron Williams and boozer. Both average double doubles. Then I have Eric Gordon and Marcus Camby who put up solid numbers. Neither conflict with tenother, in any case it could help. Swill throws an alleyoop to boozer. Ast and pt. Next play, boozer returns the favor and kicks it out to dwill for Trey. Other example, Eric Gordon misses a shot, camby gets the reb. A big and a small won't conflict, but two of the same type will like a sg and pg or any big.
hey thief, great post! with KG on the list, I started thinking and worked up a trade offer, how does this deal sound? my al harrington + mehmet okur for his KG + AK47?
is this going thru?

Cj, try a different web browser.
Hey, if anyones around, I'm at a bar here in Boston watching my C's. Nothing for nothing, but they are unstoppable no matter who's on the floor!
Derrick rose doesnt make your list? =(
I blame Vinny Del Negro, 100%
