getting a move on x reunion x champion

I think I will not be able to write good tonight. I'm a bit sleepy now...

Getting a move on_____
September 26, 2007 - deadline of the submission of the Social Science Project, The S.A.P. Experience. Third period classes were moved to 7:30-8:30am so Social Science was our first subject. At around 6:45 am, I and Jc went to the Library to continue our project in social science. As the bell rang, we asked the librarian to print all the pages. Good thing Sir Sigua is very considerate and compassionate. He allowed us to finish our work until recess so while our classmates were starting the class, we were in the library along with some girl classmates, doing the social science project. Luckily, we made it in time.
Reunion_____
The original plan was to have lunch together with my previous section, III-35, together with our adviser. Sadly, our adviser couldn't make it because of some conference thing. First, we went to eat at Pizza Hut Bistro in Gateway. We were twelve in the group and ordered three family size cheesy pops pizza. I only had two slices. They start collecting money to pay for the whole bill. First, they collected php86.00 from each one of us. Then, they collected additional php30.00 from those who ate pasta (I do not belong to these people). I don't know what happened.. they just started collecting lots and lots of money from us until we reached a sum of php2500.00. my goodness. 3 pans of pizza, 3 plates of pasta, and we pay 500 less 3000. I just don't get it. I wanted to see the receipt for myself and compute each one's expenses, but I just got shy, thinking that they might say some things... so I did not. JC, who just had one slice of pizza and some bites of pasta paid about 200.00 when in fact, he arrived late and did not have a part of the first two pizzas. hayy. what a reunion... maybe half of the time we spent there was for collecting money. and the other half is for the laughs which i think is not worth a 2500. we can always play at Caterbytes and have more laughs... well, I can't do anything anyway... I guess I'll call it a BAD LAUGH that cures no sickness.

champion_______
after paying for the pizza, we headed straight towards the Araneta Coliseum. We bought upper box b tickets since there are not better places. I had a nice time cheering. The view there isn't that bad, I just realized. It was not really a thrilling game.. not worth to be called a championship.. It was not a close match. The opponent, Letran, only had their lead in the first minutes of the game, then it was all San Beda. Anyway.. atleast we'll have no classes tomorrow! that's the only good thing for the day :D

ta-ta for now ('ll be posting soon about the retreat... i can't find time)

Saving for Kids College Education

My daughter will be turning 2 in January. So for my wife and I, its time for us to start planning for her college. Should we go for a College 529 plan, an Education IRA or a Regular Investment account ? What should we do?

So I started researching the various college savings options available. I decided to go to the Vanguard website because Vanguard is the most conservative mutual fund company I know of, because as far as saving for college is concerned I dont want to invest too aggressively. So here is what I found.

529 College savings Plan

529 plans enable you to invest for higher education free of federal and, sometimes, state income taxes. States or schools can sponsor a 529 plan. Most are open to residents of all states. Some plans allow you to invest between $200,000 and $300,000 on behalf of one child, so a 529 plan may be your best bet for fully funding a college education.

Advantage
Enjoy investing flexibility, high contribution limits, and tax advantages to save for college and graduate school.

Disadvantage
The money can ONLY be used for college.
And If your kid doesn't go to college, you may name another eligible family member as beneficiary on the account and use the 529 assets to pay for that person’s education. If no eligible family members can be named beneficiary, then you might have to close the account, paying federal and possibly state income taxes and a 10% federal penalty tax on earnings not used for qualified higher-education expenses.

Education Savings Account

Advantage
you can invest for any level of a child’s education—primary school, high school, college, or beyond. And you can start investing for that child from birth. The money is taxed at the child's tax rate, which is typically lower than the parents' rate.
Although contributions aren't tax-deductible, your earnings grow tax-free and withdrawals are free from federal income taxes when used for qualified education expenses.

Disadvantage
You can only contribute $2000 a year.

UGMA/UTMA accounts

Advantage
A tax-advantaged way to save for a child's future, for higher education or any other purpose that benefits the child.
The accounts dont have any contribution limits, though contributions above a certain amount will trigger the federal gift tax.

Disadvantage
When the child turn 18, he/she gains control of the money and they can do anything with the money.

Regular Investment Account

Advantage
You retain complete control of the account. Select from from a broad lineup of stock, bond, balanced, and short-term investments.

Disadvantage
You do not receive the tax advantages of accounts specifically created for college investing.

So what did we decide ?
As of now, our finances are in order with no credit card debt an we regularly keep a close watch on our savings and spending. Therefore, we went for a regular investment account. We chose the Vanguard STAR fund that is a conservative balanced mutual fund that has consistently given a return of at least 10%.

So do you think we made the right decision ?

Success

It's nothing special, but it works here. I'm actually writting this from work! It's much slower than normal browsing. Could be a few things. My server might be slow (yah it prob is, it's cheap!) and every little HTTP connection turns into a encrypted HTTPS tunnel with key exchanges and encryption for the smallest of files... That's where I'd assume most of the overhead is. A single connection which stays open and tunnels traffic may do better -- PuTTY/ssh does that very nicely. But do I want to run SSH which is encrypted (but optionally compressed!) underneath an SSL tunnel? Twice encrypted, that takes some CPU cycles, but I believe keeping 1 connection and not having to do the handshakes every time, plus a bit of compression...

Workstation -> stunnel client -> Firewall -> stunnel server -> tinyproxy -> sshd

Wow. It's so easy if it's just ssh, cut out stunnel and tinyproxy. Why does SSH have to not work over this dern proxy? I wish they had used a protocol which looked more like a real HTTPS connection. I already use it on port 443 on my secondary IP for such occasions! :) I seriously think it's just because the server talks first... I could hack PuTTY (sources are available) and my sshd, but what'd that really help me achieve? SPEED! Incompatibilities... :D

busy x busy x busy

from the restless Peace Retreat upto today, I've been completely tired.
Remember, I have not had any sleep the night before the retreat. At the length of the retreat, I think we slept for about 12 midnight to 2 am each night so I did not really get any sleep. Last night, or shall I say early morning, I started sleeping at about 2:30 am because of the social science project and the music reporting. I've been very busy since we came home from the retreat. Now, I need some sleep. I'll be posting about the retreat and the past days soon. I just need to find some time so ta-ta for now

HTTP proxies...

They're used so you don't visit sites you're not suppose to. It's really easy with all the CGI proxies out there to get around them, but they aren't 100% functional. SSH over HTTP proxy usually works, but this time for me it did not. I suppose it was because an SSH server starts the connection with a version identifier, and the HTTP proxy did not like that. I will be testing out this stunnel/tinyproxy configuration. It'd be doubly encrypted, but I could in turn use that to connect to my SSH server if a success. Attached you'll find the files.
The config files are all unchanged from my tests, so you'll have information about my server, but my stunnel server has been setup to checks client certificates. I included my client cert and private key, but it's passworded, and if cracked and abused I can easily change the certs allowed on the server! The tinyproxy backend only allows connections from localhost. That makes it pretty closed to all those random foreign hackers that always seem to probe the entire internet for open proxies.
So anyway... Hopefully it seems more authentic to my corporates HTTP proxy. It would be a nice addition to Portable Firefox. Making those weekends stuck on duty seem almost like I'm surfing from home... :)
Edit: on second thought, I won't post the file here. It's all available on stunnel.org, and I can just use a diskette to allow friends the option of testing it out.

When did you start taking better care of your Finances ?

Was it a particular event in your life or a series of events that took place over a period of time ?
I was recently asked this question and this got me thinking in the past, year 2002, to be precise.

My answer was: After I got married! I realized that I'm responsible for someone else too. I had to have control over my finances for us to enjoy the basic necessities in life, like, buying a home and sending our kids to the best schools and colleges money can buy. In 2002, I was also introduced to the Suze Orman Show on CNBC, and her advice really helped.

I posed this question in MBN forums that has the best Personal Finance bloggers of this age.
Below are their responses!

Debt Free Revolution says "26 Dec 2006 was when I started to get a clue. A couple days later I jumped in with both feet and haven't looked back. That was the day I first heard Dave Ramsey on the radio while driving through louisville, Ky."

Punny Money says "2000-ish, when I was 17 and became the primary income earner for my household."

Generation X Finance says "Early 2005, after a few less than successful business ventures resulted in an overwhelming amount of debt.

Poorer Than You says "Call me the blogosphere success story - I started caring about my finances after I started reading personal finance blogs! "

Plonkee says "When I left university and got a real job."

Financial Dominance says "I've always leaned a bit toward taking good care of my finances until I decided to move in with my girlfriend during the last year of college. I didn't have any income to speak of, but we still decided to party like it was 1999 (except it was 2001).
After exiting college and getting my first job, we have stepped back on track and never looked back."

No Credit Needed says "April 5, 2005... day of my first blog post... http://www.ncnblog.com/2005/04/05/welcome-aka-the-very-first-post/ "

CashGoat says "July 2006. It was after reading the total money makeover. It felt like common sense completely broadsided me. It made me wonder why I had just accepted debt as a "normal" way of life when I clearly didn't need to be in such a deep hole and in fact could prosper if I wasn't. I'm still kicking myself in the rear but heading back in the right direction now. I'm very thankful for having found Dave Ramsey on XM in April of that year while on a drive to see my girlfriend who lived 2 hours away."

financeispersonal says "
2004 when I realized that I actually had to pay for college and borrowing up to my eyeballs probably wasn't the best way to go. "

www.gatherlittlebylittle.com says "Earlier this year, I had a personal circumstance that caused me to re-look at a whole mess of things in my life, one of them being my finances.
I started reading blogs, found Dave Ramsey and decided to become debt free. I started a blogger personal blog and found most of my posts were personal finance related and decided to take the next step and create a real blog. My first blog post was on July 1, 2007 on Gather Little By Little."

www.greenpandatreehouse.com says "When I got engaged (May 2006) I knew I had to get serious about my credit card debt. I managed to pay them off 1 month after the wedding. Now I'm trying to pay off my auto loan and in less then a year I have to wok on my student loan."

Moolanomy says "After I graduated college and got my first real job. Once I have to earn my own money, I quickly realized how irresponsible I have been with my parents' money."

www.onlinesavingsblog.com says "the end of 2005, after I met with an Ameriprise advisor (found through a free lunch thing). Their shtick sounded too good too be true (which it is) so I went and did research. But they did introduce me to ING, which led to my online savings account passion ... "

A Penny Closer says "When we decided we wanted a new home. We sat down to look at our finances and realized we couldn't afford to move. That's when we started budgeting and working towards that goal."

So, what was the event in your life that triggered you senses to take better care for your finances ??

The 道 of Writing, the sublime of Work Ethics...

Be it software, technical documents or emails.

If any man wish to write in clear style, let him be first clear in his thoughts; and if any would write in a noble style, let him first possess a noble soul.
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Learn as much by writing as by reading.
~ Lord Acton

I too am an apprentice, always—learning as much by failing as by succeeding, as much by following as by leading.
~ antonius

So don't despair that no one agrees with you and point your mistakes, for "... when you're screwing up and nobody's saying anything to you anymore, that means they've given up on you."
~ Randy Pausch

red ribbon x retreat letters x restless

woo! what a day!

after classes, we went to Red Ribbon, Taytay to eat some cake. I had a lot of things to do so I did not join Jonas and company in playing at Caterbytes. After I got home, I worked on our assignment (MATH). After doing the assignment in Math, I slept till 8pm. Then I played Mu till 9pm and started working on the retreat letters.. whoo. I can't believe it took me till 4am to finish 34 letters, a coloring assignment in Theology, another research assignment, and packing up. We will have our retreat in St. Michael's Retreat House, Antipolo (been there when I was in grade 4, 5, and 6) starting later till sunday night so this would be my last post for the week I suppose. about an hour from now, the school bus will be arriving so I have to get ready and atleast get a 10 minute sleep.. damn! ta-ta!

haha! We were supposed to watch our Red Lions fight against the Letran Knights in the Araneta Coliseum - NCAA Seniors Championship Game 1. but... after selling the tickets my friends had, we went to Gateway, transportation c/o JM. The choice of movie was again divided. I and Lyka wanted The Brave One - Jodie Foster (Based on the movie poster, excitement grew within me). Neil and the others wanted I Know Who Killed Me - Lindsay Lohan. Jonas and JM wanted I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - Adam Sandler and the one from Hitch (dunno his name). Among the three, I went for The Brave One though I also wanted to watch the other two. Since I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry already started for about 10 minutes then, we made for I Know Who Killed Me which was to be shown about 5 - 10 minutes from then (1:55pm). (The Brave One was about an hour from then so that was canceled from the choices). At first, I was kind of confused. When I got to know that Aubrey (Lindsay) had a twin, thing went clear to me. The story was about stigmata on identical twins. Whatever suffering Aubrey was experiencing, Dakota (Aubrey's twin) was experiencing too. Aubrey was kidnapped and her right arm and right leg were cut off. uhh gross. My suspects were the one who made the robotic foot/arm, the piano teacher, and the father. I won't tell you the killer (watch it first if you haven't yet) but he is one of those I mentioned. After the movie, JM, Sam, and Aaron parted ways with us. They went to watch the ball game while we went to Timezone c/o Jonas, Lyka, Q. We had fun shooting balls. The machine was broken so it was like free shooting. No one bothered us anyway. We also had fun in the game show (haha! first place in the first round! :D) and in the Dance Dance Revolution thing (B Class lol). After playing, we ate a little and went to Caterbytes, transpo c/o Lyka. We played -wtf games since the shop was about to be closed, play time c/o Jonas :D (haha. expense-free ^^). After playing, we dropped by 7-11 and had some slurpee, again c/o Jonas. Not long after, I and Q took the jeep on our way home. Seated away from me, a woman (hard to talk.. basta mukhang laspag ayon kay q) seated next to quilala and (should I say) IMPRISONED him. Almost everyone were laughing, including me. The girl looked like she had some sessions first and her outfit was .. exposing? I reserved a seat for quilala so he could come beside me. Out of courage, he asked the girl to take off her arm, good thing she did and so quilala was beside me on the entire trip. Once I got home, I topped up my Mu Account ^^ and played for awhile. I'm done with my assignment in Practical Arts and Science. Now I'm about to study Dante's Divine Comedy or rather, I'm about to sleep :D . so ta-ta!

CHIP TUNING

CHIP TUNING

Modifiye sektörü son bir kaç yıldır büyük bir hızla gelişiyor. Türk tüketicisinin tepkisi hayli yüksek. Geçmişte yabancı kaynaklarda gördüğümüz başkalaşmış otomobillere artık ülkemiz yollarında da rastlıyoruz. Hemen hemen herkesin birinci modifiye adımları içerisinde uyguladığı chip tuningin temelinden ne yatıyor? İşlem nasıl gerçekleşiyor? Sizler için chip tuning operasyonlarını mercek altına yatırdık…
Günümüz otomobilleri elektronik sistemlerle kontrol edilen motorlara sahip.

Her otomobile chip tuning uygulanır mı?

Bazı otomobillerin işletim sistemleri dışarıdan her türlü müdahaleye karşı korumalıdır. Bu nedenle bu modellerin işletim sistemini yeniden programlamak imkansızdır. Böyle modelleri de işletim sisteminin chipi sökülerek yerine programlanmış hazır chipler takılabilir. Böylece sistemin koruması aşılmış ve modifikasyon gerçekleşmiş olur.
