It's the thing that's easiest to economize on when you're busy, whether at work or in your social life - but that's actually the worst thing you can do. When things are hectic in any area of your life, the way to boost your energy to deal with them much more easily, effectively and enjoyably is to make sure you're well-rested.

If you're dreading a demanding day at work, or looking forward to a party, it can be hard to relax the night before. If you have last-minute preparations to make, it sometimes isn't even possible... so here's a tip.

Have a really early night the night before that. Forget your preparations, switch off the phone and the TV, treat yourself to a relaxing evening, and have an early night.

Empty your mind of whatever you've been thinking of all day, and fill it with tranquil images of whatever makes you feel your most relaxed.

Let all the tension ebb out of each muscle, from your head down to your toes, and let yourself feel warm and sleepy, then enjoy feeling yourself just drift into deep sleep.
