Bugün Kırım'ın başkenti Akmescit'te Merkez meydanı'nda onbinlerce kişinin toplandığı anma mitingi yapılacak. Türkiye'nin çeşitli illerinde Kırım Dernekleri ve Kırım Tatar diasporasının bulunduğu Romanya, ABD, Almanya gibi ülkelerde anma törenleri düzenleniyor.

I would like to tell you about a new slide program, titled "We shall not forget," that has been produced on the 64th anniversary of the deportation of Crimean Tatars. It includes 20 slides, with quotations from well known Crimean Tatar leaders, authors and poets such as Ismail Bey Gaspirali, Numan Celebi Cihan, Cengiz Dagci and Mustafa Jemilev. The text is in Turkish and Crimean Tatar. Those of you who do not read these language may still want to take a look at this presentation just to see the illustrations (photographs and artwork relating to deportation) and hear the music. Credits go to Ismet Yuksel and Yunus Unsal (production) ; Rustem Emin (pictures) and D. J. Bebek and Crimean Ensemble (sound).

Slide 13.
"Aren’t Crimean Tatars a tree which is supposed to die, not to get greener and not to give new branches? Since the day that they lost their independence, there wasn’t any day passed without chopping the branches of this tree, but again new branches came out of its body. These branches were not allowed to grow and were chopped again. But branches came out again. At the end, this tree is chopped at its root, and thrown away on a lonely, desert land. But again new branches came out of this body and got longer and longer, and they reached to the land where this tree was planted one thousand years ago." -- Cengiz DAGCI, author; translator unknown.
