Greetings and hello from strong storm HQ... David Prasad Blog with the weather here. This storm is very promising in bringing some good weather to California in decent amounts. Why, it could actually be a tad dangerous. No flash flood warnings yet, though. The rain band doesn't appear to be wide enough to cause those. That's always a feature of the biggest storms. What this storm is bringing is winter weather (snow) for very low-lying mountains and high surf to the Central Coast. The winds will be hard enough to cause trouble to small aircraft and boats. Behind this storm, an impressive array of hard charging weather systems.

Another Pacific northwester, with a mighty tail fanning down Cali way, so it appears, as of about 8pm Thursday, Feb. 12.... (water vapor satellite pic above)

And here it is, way early Friday the 13th morning, 1:30 am. This thing is hauling butt, twisting in a mighty cylonic twist as it pushes southeast and deep into California. It is a perfect shape of cyclone, a thing a of beauty. I'll tell you, it is quite cold outside as it is, and to see this blasting down has one thinking... "snow in the valley??"
The warnings are up in advance of the storm - severe winter storm conditions in the mountains and even in the low lying coastal hills, thunderstorms expected here in the valley today. In testament to this being a strongish storm, the Coast Ranges are wringing out significant precipitation as the cloud bands pass over the Bay Area. There is a pretty large blanket of continuous precipitation over the bay counties right now. Check out all the warnings... including snow warnings for the coast ranges of Santa Cruz County!! This is a frosty cold one. It's the most wonderful time of the year in California, but be careful. Enjoy the inclement weather as it decorates our beautiful state.
