Barack H. Obama was called upon by the American people to save America from itself in whatever ways possible.

Bill Clinton gets kudos for taking on the NRA. His dubious distinctions include market deregulation, lax policy towards the food industry, allowing two genocides, the Defense of Marriage Act and Don't Ask-Don't Tell. A popular frustration during his term was that the two parties offered no real choice by serving the interests of powerful above all other concerns.

I have no idea how to interpret Hoover, who governed during the crash that led to the Great Depression. He was pro-Prohibition, and that turned out to be very unpopular. The crash that happened just 8 months after he was sworn in didn't help either. History sort of ran him over. yet he was not without achievement. He was responsible for Boulder Dam and many big government projects of the early depression years.

Dwight D. Eisenhower oversaw the "Red Scare" and took the first baby steps toward confronting lynchings and Jim Crow in the South. He attempted to assassinate Castro and successfully overthrew democracy in Iran in favor of a pro-American dictator, the Shah. Both actions had consequences further down the road. He oversaw the most progressive tax structure in our country's history that paid for infrastructure and education.
