It was a sunny and warm day today, so I took a long put off stroll down the San Joaquin River Parkway late on this January afternoon. The trail is a very nice recreational walking and bicycling path that was great for watching a sunset through the valley's winter haze and for seeing lots of birds, rabbits and ah yes, the Rice Road Dump, or what remains of it.
I guess on the river bottom, just over the terrace bluff from the main road, was thought be a good place to stick a dump. I am seeing it for the first time since childhood during this walk on the nature trail. In fact, the dump was why most people ever came out here. Swear it used to be bigger!

20 years ago, Fresno discovered it had a River with forests, and wasn't really out in the middle of a desert wasteland that was only turned green by agriculture (as taught in school here). Since then, efforts are underway to reclaim a bit of what has been lost, not just along the San Joaquin, but in other parts of the Great Central Valley of California (which is comprised of the San Joaquin Valley and Sacramento Valley).

Cheer up, Gay Activists. Obama's choice of gay bishop Gene Robinson aims to soothe feelings over being left out of the inauguration after playing such a large role in getting Obama elected. Feelings still sore over choice of anti-gay preacher to deliver the benediction that opens the inauguration itself.
Barack Obama's decision to have a prominent gay bishop open his inaugural festivities Sunday at the Lincoln Memorial is the latest in a series of moves that have heartened gay rights advocates smarting over evangelical pastor Rick Warren's prime spot at the swearing-in ceremony next week.
...On election night, America suffered a sweep of anti-gay victories across the nation. We are now challenged to prove we can win. Looks like our post-election organizing is having an impact.
